With the Bangladesh Football Federation's new profesional B.League set to kick off on 15 February, concern is inceasing about the state of the stadiums. Professional League manager Abu Nayeem Shohag told the Daily Star that clubs had been asked to complete necessary renovation work on venues by 5 February. "We have recommended areas of work on the reports submitted by our committee. We will have another visit on February 6 or 7 to see the progress," he said.
However the newspaper opined that of four venues, only the Bangabandhu National Stadium seems to be in playable condition ... the Khulna Stadium, home of local Abahani, has the entire southern section of its gallery abandoned for a long time. It also needs emergency up gradation of the dressing room, toilets and especially, the very small media box. Galleries at the MA Aziz Stadium in Chittagong are still under renovation while the Sylhet Stadium dressing rooms also need works. Lack of media facilities at most stadiums is the common problem for venues outside Dhaka. Despite all the progress, the top brass of the federation remains ignorant as the tournament committee has yet to be formed since it was dissolved at an executive committee meeting last Thursday. Chairman and co-chairman Abdur Rahim and Sirajul Islam Bachchu were given the responsibility to form the committee without any development in five days."
Shohag and BFF Communications manager Sayeed Al Fatah are visiting the designated professional clubs to enlighten the players about the pros and cons of the new competition. Shohag said an Asian Football Confederation seminar on event management would be held on 7 February.
