The China Football Association has announced plans for a thorough reform of referees to create an atmosphere of fair play and transparency in the China Super League, AFCMedia reported. A press release issued by the CFA said all referees shortlisted to appear in the new CSL season will be voted for by the CSL and First Division clubs.
The selection ratio between the two leagues is 1:1.3, which means that CSL clubs have the right to vote 28 referees and assistants referees out of 36 candidates (for each) while First Division clubs can cast their votes for 50 referees and assistants from an equal pool of 65 each. The polling for referees has been welcomed and has the support of all the CSL and First Division clubs, informed the release.
The new CSL season kicks off on 12 March with 15 clubs while 13 clubs do battle in the First Division. The CFA Cup commences on 1 April.
