Dalian Shide champions of China Super League

With still two more rounds to go in the Chinese Super League 2005 season, Dalian Shide has already reserved its eighth Chinese league title after beating Wuhan Huanghelou 2-0 in Jinzhou on Sunday. According to AFCMedia, Dalian, needing just one point, pocketed all three on offer with goals from Zoran Jankovic and Zhao Xuri in the second half. The CSL title assured Dalian a place in next season’s AFC Champions League.

Dalian have been overwhelmingly dominant in the Chinese Professional Soccer League since its inception, having won the Jia A titles in 1994, 1995, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2001 and 2002, and becoming the second CSL winners after Shenzhen Jianlibao. Now, under Serb coach Vladimir Petrovic Pizon, they are on track for a double if they beat Shandong Luneng in the China FA Cup final next month.
