The acting president of the Asian Football Confederation, Mr Zhang Jilong of China, has said his first priority is to stabilise his organisation. Mr Zhang was appointed temporary chief of the AFC after president Mohamed bin Hammam was suspended by the world football body, FIFA, over bribery allegations.
"It is important to unify all the Asian members together and promote the sport into a higher level," Mr Zhang told Xinhua newsagency. "But at present, I think I should focus on keeping the organization stable."
In the past few days, Xinhia commented, "Qatar was accused of buying the 2022 World Cup while AFC head Hammam and the head of the CONCACAF region Jack Warner have been suspended over bribery allegations; and Bin Hammam withdrew from Wednesday's FIFA presidential race."
