Afghanistan joins South Asian Championship

The draw for the 4th South Asian Football Federation Championship was held Thursday in Singapore at an executive meeting of SAFF chaired by president Gonesh Thapa. The Asian Football Confederation's Vice President Monilal Fernando and General Secretary Peter Vellapon and the SAFF's General Secretary Sirajul Islam Bachchu and eight other representatives, were present on the occasion.
Defending champions Bangladesh have been drawn in Group-B along with India, Nepal and Bhutan while Group-A includes last year's runners-up, the Maldives, with Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan. The hosts Pakistan will face Sri Lanka in one of two opening day matches on 7 December and in the second match Maldives will play against Afghanistan (pictured training at Ghazi Stadium, Kabul), who are taking part in the SAFF football for the first time.
